So many false stories get started about my friends the Monkees that I want to take this opportunity to get some of them straightened out.
Here are some answers to the questions that I am most often asked.

Q. Please tell me if it’s true that Davy and Peter had a fight over who was going to go out with a certain model named Denise. I can’t believe Peter and Davy would fight over such a silly matter. Also is Davy going steady with Deana Martin? Peter with Leah? Micky with Samantha Juste? Please answer!
A. You’re right, Davy and Peter both value their friendship more than one date with a girl. Besides, neither of them has gone out with a girl named Denise. Davy dates Deana, but is not going steady with anyone. Peter no longer dates Leah. Yes, Micky is going steady with Samantha Juste.
Q. I’ve heard a rumor that Davy Jones and Micky’s sister Coco were going steady. Also, that Davy asked Coco to marry him, but she said no. Please clear up the mystery!
A. All I really need to do is print all the rumors about who Davy’s going steady with and instantly you would see he couldn’t possibly be engaged to all these girls at once.
Coco dates many boys and is very good friends with all the Monkees, but she has never actually “dated” any of them.
Q. Please answer these two rumors: (1) Is it true Micky used to belong to the Micky Mouse Club TV show? I heard he was picked for “Circus Boy” after being in the “Micky Mouse Club”; (2) In the August Monkee Spec you said Peter didn’t smoke, but I’ve seen a picture of Peter with a cigarette in his hand.
A. Micky was never in the Micky Mouse Club. Peter used to smoke, but doesn’t anymore. The picture you saw was taken when they filmed the pilot well over a year ago.
Q. My girlfriend and I read where the Monkees were questioned about U.S. drug habits. Is this true?
A. Peter was asked at the London press conference if he took drugs and his reply was, “I took an aspirin once and it killed my head.”
Q. Is it true Davy has been dating a 65-year-old lady? Please say this is not true, I don’t know what I’ll do if it’s true.
A. Davy couldn’t possibly be dating a 65-year-old lady, he’s been on tour for three months.
Q. I know Micky has a sister named Coco, but my sister’s friend knows Micky’s sister and she says her name is Gemia. It even says in the Los Gatos High Yearbook. Will you tell me if her name is Coco or Gemia?
A. Micky’s sister was named Gemia Marie Dolenz on the day she was born by her parents. On that same day Micky nicknamed her Coco Sunshine Marie Dolenz. Her nickname “Coco” has stuck and Coco says, “The only ones who call me Gemia are my mother when she gets mad, and some of my long-time friends.”
Q. No, No, No! Tell me it isn’t true! I recently heard that Davy was put in jail for three months. Tell me this is not true. Please! My lovable, dear, sweet Davy couldn’t have done what they said—not Davy!
A. It is not true.
Q. I’ve just read in the news that Mike and Phyllis Nesmith are expecting another baby. Since much of your time is spent interviewing the Monkees, could you tell me if this is really true? If it’s true I’d like to be the first fan to congratulate them and wish them lots of luck and happiness.
A. It’s true! We’re happy to announce that Phyllis and Mike expect their second child sometime in January. They’re hoping for a girl.
Q. A girlfriend of mine told me that because the Monkees don’t get along good together that they are going to break up. Please tell me it’s untrue.
A. It’s untrue. The boys get along very well together. You’ll often find them going places together besides the times on the show. They have no intention of breaking up for many years.
Q. I heard from one of my friends that Davy was dying from smoking too much.
A. Davy is in excellent health and he happens to be a health food addict to help stay that way. He does smoke, but very rarely.
Q. Since you know the Monkees so well, could you tell me if Micky has false teeth? I say he doesn’t but my mom insists he does. Who’s right?
A. You are. Micky’s teeth are all his own.
Q. I have recently heard that Davy Jones is going with a girl in Norfolk, Virginia and that he sees her once a month. Is this true or is it another Monkee Rumor?
A. It’s another Monkee Rumor. Davy is not going with anyone.
Q. Is it true the Monkees have a laughing machine on their TV show? Please tell me!
A. Like many shows that are made in Hollywood, the Monkees series uses “canned” laughter or laughter that is recorded on tape. They do this because it is impossible to have a live audience though they like this effect.
Q. It said in a newspaper that Davy Jones was seen at a discotheque with Marlene Dietrich. Is it true? I also read in a magazine that Davy said in these exact words, “Teenage birds bore me, I fancy Barbara Stanwick.”
A. Davy has never gone on a date with Marlene Dietrich. It is possible he was introduced to her at a club and someone wrote that they were together but it just isn’t so. Davy does dig “teenage birds”—all birds for that matter!
