Monkee Mail

Dear Jackie,

May I tell you how much I look forward to the Monkees Monthly each month, even my dad reads it after me!

Some time in May I received two letters in one week from the fantasticmagorial Micky Dolenz and it really proves that the Monkees do care about their fans, and are not just “another group”. Last night on “Top of The Pops” I saw the Great Davy Jones. During it my sister phoned up the operator to get the number of the studio which she got, and when it finished we rang up to see if we could speak to HIM. We tried three times and eventually got through but unfortunately he had just left. Gee I wish I was you having their number. Think of all the fun I could have.

In one mag I read that they like old towns. Well if this is true, tell them to come to Colchester. It’s the oldest recorded town in England. Dated back further than the Romans. Also tell them I would gladly, gladly, be their chaperone.

You think I’m kidding? Well I’m not! I’ve enclosed a stamped addressed envelope in case you do personal replies. I don’t know if you do or not.

I know, of course, that romance is definitely in the air between Micky and Samantha, but what I would like to know is do you think they will get married, ’cos I’ve often read that they will but is it true or just rumours?

And if it is true all I want for Micky is for him to be happy and I mean that.

Well I must go now as my dog is scratching to go for a walk. So ’til next month,

Love ’n Peace,

Dear Jackie,

I am writing this immediately after the record of D.W. Washburn, on the Stewart Henry Show. He had a panel giving their opinions on new records and after this record was played the whole panel except for one said the record was a load of rubbish. Then, as if this wasn’t enough to make your blood boil, Stewart Henry said that as the BBC were no longer continuing the Monkee shows, would this be the end of the Monkees and three-quarters of the audience said YES!

I think (with a lot of others I’m sure) the Monkees will go on for a very long time to come and I for one will buy every record they bring out and I hope all the other Monkees fans will too. I think this record is the absolute tops. And I especially like the “B” side as I am an ardent Davy fan.

From an infuriated Monkee Fan,

Carol Fletcher,

Windsor, Berks.

P.S. For the Monkees—We Monkee fans will show the knockers you’re not going to be forgotten for years to come. Love to you all, especially Davy.

Dear Jackie,

I wish that there was more to the B side of D.W. Washburn, It’s nice to be with you. It’s the most beautiful record I have heard for a long time. I think it should have been the A side. Davy sounds marvellous. This record was worth buying if only for the B side.

Love to Davy, Peter, Mike, Micky, Phyllis, Sammy, Christian Du Val, Jonathan, and Davy’s dog Susie.

Love,

Kim,

P.S. I hope that D.W. Washburn gets to Number 1 both sides of the Atlantic.

Dear Jackie,

The majority of the girls at my school are anti-Monkees and they all know that I like the Monkees very much and they are all against me because of this. I have not given in to them, I have made enemies out of my ex-friends. But I don’t care!! So long as I’ve got the Monkees, I have the four best friends I could wish for. If any other girls are in the same position as this my advice is that they must not give in ’cos they’ve still got the FAB 4 and the Monkees are still the greatest. I hope this gets printed so that the readers will take heart!!!

Love and Peace,

Dear Jackie,

Referring to Stuart Henry’s Juke Box Jury Panel, Sunday morning—10 o’clock, 23rd June.

Never before have I heard the Monkees so heavily criticised. Well let the Panel get a load of this.

They ARE original. This is one of the things which has made those Fab four so popular all over the world.

They said that Davy couldn’t act. That, to me, and I’m sure all other Monkee fans is a thing we cannot tolerate. All the Monkees can act better than the Beatles, we can see that plainly enough with the great success of the TV Series. The Magical Mystery Tour was just one big flop!

My sincere thanks to Bobby Vee who disagreed with most of the criticisms put forward, he certainly put the critics in their places.

So come on all you Monkee Fans, back me up. Go straight out and buy the latest greatest record—D.W. Washburn, and make those critics eat their words. (And I hope they choke and get indigestion.) Let’s get the Monkees where they belong—To Number One in the charts.

A very angry but loving Monkee Fan,

Geraldine Cork,

P.S. Tell Davy he has a Budgi fan for my Budgi keeps chanting Davy Jones, Davy Jones, all the time.

Dear Jackie,

I’ve been threatened with eviction, strangulation, evasion.

Suggested that it’s time for expansion, extraction, action.

And last of all being told with definition that:

I MUST remove all my MONKEE pics from my bedroom wall.

But I think they look tons better than ordinary wallpaper, don’t you???????

LOVE and FRUSTRATION,

Dear Jackie (& Monkee Fans),

Please, please with all my Monkee lovin’ self give Peter, Micky, Mike, Davy my congratulations on their new record “D.W. Washburn”. I really think its smashing, I heard it today 18th June, I don’t think I’ll ever be the same again—its the greatest. Micky’s voice is outasite!!! I’m glad he sings on this one, the flip-side singer Davy, is real cute singing this side. If only all the suppose Monkee (Swoon! Gasp! Scream Aah!) Fans kept up their promise, of buying faithfully all treasured Monkee records, they slave away for our happiness all most of us do is listen, go crazy, but don’t buy their masterpieces of beautiful records. Come on Monkee Fans, you’ve got another chance, put the Monkees where they should be at the Top…. Always let’s drive the neighbours mad with another Monkee hit… I hope.

Love ’n Peace Monkee Fan,

Jane Ross,

P.S. Monkees you’re the greatest.

Dear Jackie,

I’m absolutely FURIOUS!!!! The reason is this: I’ve been listening to the “Sunday Show” on Radio 1. On the show they had a panel consisting of: Carl Wayne, Bobby Vee, Dave Most and his brother, and a girl from the audience. They had to vote the records either a splash or a smash hit. Amongst the records played was “D.W. Washburn”.

These were their opinions: Carl Wayne: A lot of rubbish! All the others agreed, except Bobby Vee, who said it was great. And he is RIGHT!!!!

Carl is just jealous of the Monkees, ’cos all their records are hits and ’cos the Move haven’t had one for ages! He also said the Monkees will be dead in six months, now that their TV series has ended. He obviously doesn’t know about the MILLIONS of Monkee fans, Monkees Monthly or the new film!

If he doesn’t watch out, he’s going to be dead, and it won’t take six months…. Just long enough for me to get to those studios!!!

Love and peace,

A “Davy” dream Believer,
Ilford,
Essex.
