The Mystery of Mike

Mike The Monkee and Mike The Nesmith are two separate people.

Mike, as a Monkee, is a public person who loves to share in the day-to-day happenings of the most successful group in American history!

Mike, as a non-Monkee, is a very private person who prefers to create and to think alone.

Mike is a very forward-looking person, and he has already drafted the manuscripts for two books as well as produced an album with a large orchestra (The Wichita Train Whistle Sings). Unfortunately, you may never know or realize that these particular products were devised by Mike because he intends to do both under another name. Mike wants no false credit for being a Monkee attached to his extra activities.

Mike has also become converted to the Mothers of Invention. “I’m sure that a lot of people miss their point, which is, in fact, that they haven’t got one,” says Mike. “At least, that’s the way I see it. Frank Zappa never fails to entice me into laughing at his peculiar brand of humor. People don’t realize it but in fact he is an anti-hippie—he is pro rock and roll and pro love. Apart from all this, they are good musicians and because of them rock and roll will grow!”

As Mike moves into his new house, where he will have even more room to roam and think during his non-Monkee hours, we can only share the thought of a very close friend of his: “May his letter-box be permanently filled with flowers!”
