Davy in Oliver!Would you believe that only a few short years ago Davy Jones was a member of a juvenile gang?! Well, he WAS—only “make believe,” of course!Info Welcome to the wonderful world of Davy Jones—that’s me. How would you like to come with me back into my past for a while, and see how I looked when I appeared as the Artful Dodger, leader of Fagan’s [sic] Gang, in Oliver!?Info This is the first publicity shot ever taken of me for Oliver! At that time, pictures of me were shot few and far between, so it was quite a thrill. Since then there have been many pictures of me as you can plainly see in 16 and 16 Spec, but the first ones always remain kind of senimental favorites.Info Singing and dancing was the best part of Oliver! The music was great and I was working with a fantastic cast—full of wonderful people. The thing that made it all worthwhile, though, was the applause from the outasite audience.Info Here you see me at the end of a hectic free-for-all scene called the “robbery” number. In this scene, everybody ran around the stage, knocking over anything in his or her way. This picture was taken at the end of the scene, when I was left alone. What an embarrassing situation!Info I hope you have enjoyed this trip with me back into the magical world of Oliver! A lot has happened since 1963 and it’s Monkee-time today—but I will never forget Oliver! It started me on my career in show business!Magazine: 16 SpecEditor: Gloria StaversPublished: Winter 1968Issue: 12Publisher: 16 Magazine, Inc.Pages: 10–11Davy JonesOliver! The Artful DodgerYoung
