Genie the Tailor designs for all her customers. Sometimes they bring her an idea, a scrap of fabric, a hint of a song or sometimes just plain money, and she looks into her crystal ball and gets inspired, takes her scissors in hand, and after that…

Peter Tork of The Monkees

Peter’s outfit

Peter said he needed some clothes for his European and States tour and asked me to make him some shirts, pants, and a coat, but I had the feeling he knew my rent was due! His favorite colors are orange, yellow, and red, and he looks fantastic in each and all of them! After he tried on his “new look”, he gave me the nicest present of all—he played me some Bach preludes on his organ! Wow!! Sometimes, I don’t know if my heart is strong enough to stay in this business!! My customers are so grooveeeeeeee!!!

David Crosby of The Byrds

David came up to me in Monterey and said that Paul’s shirt was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. I thought he was only buttering me up, but then he asked me to make him one just like it. I said, “David, you know I can’t do that. That design is made just for Paul.” He told me to make him one just like it, period. I told him I would. I think David looks beautiful in purple and pink.

Paul Kantner of The Jefferson Airplane

Paul is a wonderful musician, and he is so cute that the first time I saw him I was speechless! He asked me to make him a shirt, and I tried to make him one as beautiful as he is. It was very hard to deliver it to him because I couldn’t get through all the girls who always surround him!
