Dear Readers,
So many false stories get started about my friends the Monkees that I want to take this opportunity to get some of them straightened out.
Here are some answers to the questions that I am most often asked.
Love, Ann Moses
Q. My girlfriend said that Peter Tork was married and had a son. I told her it was Mike Nesmith that was married but is Peter Tork married?
A. Peter is not married and has no children.
Q. I’m a big fan of the Monkees (especially Davy). but I heard that Davy was hit by a semi and is now in a coma. Some even say he is dead now. Is any of this true?
A. Rumors like this are usually false and this is no exception. Davy is too busy working each day at Screen Gems to spend time in the hospital in a coma.
Q. I recently saw a picture of Davy Jones with a cigarette in his hand. It was on the Monkees set, so I’m wondering if he was just posing for the picture or if he really smokes.
A. Yes, Davy smokes, but very little. He used to smoke more than he does now, but when he went on a health kick last November he cut down very much.
Q. Every time I turn around I keep reading about Peter Tork and his girlfriend Leah. Is he serious about this girl?
A. You’d have to ask Peter that question. He has been going steady with Leah for several months and they go just about everywhere together. She was his guest when the boys did their concert in San Francisco. Other than that, there’s not much we can say.
Q. I heard that Davy was married. I hope it’s not true, please tell me!
A. Davy is not married, though he looks forward to it some day. He has said over and over that one day he would like a home and a big family, but that right now his life is just too busy. Don’t expect to see Davy wearing a wedding band for several years yet.
Q. From the pictures I’ve seen, I can’t tell if Micky’s hair is dry, oily or normal. Can you set me straight?
A. Micky’s hair is dry. He has to comb it often on the set to keep it looking well groomed.
Q. Is Peter engaged to Leah and what is her last name?
A. Peter is not engaged to Leah, though they date steadily. Her full name is Leah Cohen.
Q. Is Davy 21 or 22, I’ve read both.
A. Davy is 21 years old. He was born on December 30, 1945.
Q. Who is Davy Jones stand-in—David Price or Rodney Bingenheimer.
A. David Price is Davy Jones personal stand-in. He “stands in” for a scene while the cameramen get the correct angles and set the lights, then the “first team” (The Monkees) step in and shoot the scene. Rodney Bingenheimer, was Davy’s double when he played both roles in the “Prince and the Pauper.” He only worked on that one show.
Q. I’ve been hearing around school that Peter Tork of the Monkees was killed in a car accident. Was he?
A. No. None of the Monkees have been in any car accidents. All are living and well and currently working on the new season of Monkee shows.
Q. Can it be true? I really love Micky, but I heard that he was married and now divorced. Is this the truth or was it another rumor?
A. It’s just another rumor. In the Monkees official biography it was noted that Mike Nesmith was the only married Monkee and this is the way it stands. Micky has never been married. Micky is much too girl crazy to have chosen just one already.
Q. I heard that Davy Jones of the Monkees is going to be drafted! Is this true? If so, what will happen to the rest of the group.
A. It’s correct that David was put under 1A (ready for military call) classification. But it’s doubtful that he will be called to duty, since he is the sole support of his father and qualifies him for deferment. So, don’t worry.
Q. What was Micky’s name when he did “Circus Boy”?
A. Micky went under the name of Micky Braddock, so as not to be confused with his actor–father George Dolenz. Since his father has passed away, Micky chose to use his real name, Micky Dolenz, in the series.
Q. Does Micky smoke?
A. No.
