Girls and Davy Permalink
When Davy first came to America he had his first taste of dating. However, it wasn’t in the usual sense. Because he was a young, bouncy boy from Britain with long hair (and it was just beginning to catch on here) the girls were practically asking him for dates.
And the girls who were showing up backstage on Broadway were not Davy’s age, 16, but they were 18 and 19 years old.
Today he likes girls of all ages, both young and even some older than himself. In truth, Davy isn’t dating much these days. Not because he wouldn’t love it, but because of all the “hangups” involved.
First, David’s life is in constant demand. Often more so than the other Monkees because he has several outside interests overseas. Then, any girl Davy dates is publicized extensively and sometimes this is not desirable. Also, at this point David is neither ready for marriage nor being linked publically with one girl.
When Davy does go out on a date it is more a matter of “staying in” than “going out.” Because he is constantly being recognized and asked to sign autographs, this keeps him from having his date all to himself. So when Davy does enjoy a girl’s company it’s usually dinner with friends at his apartment and an evening of television and conversation:
More than one or the other, it’s both Davy and Micky that are getting the girls these days. And if they’re not seeing them for dates, they’re winning their hearts over the TV screen. Either way the girls are loving it.
