Info When I left you last month, I promised to return in this issue of 16 with more news about my childhood—and to tell you about the happiest day of my life. So join me, once again, on a trip back through time… and let’s catch me when I was still a young lad living in Texas.

Info When I was nine, my mom Bette and I lived in Dallas. She was a secretary and I—well, I hadn’t decided what I was going to be yet. (Fate took care of that for me!)

Info Here is a shot of me—loud sport shirt and all—in front of our home in Dallas. This was the neighborhood where I spent most of my childhood. When I got out of high school, I went to San Antonio College.
  • Phyllis Barbour Nesmith, Mike Nesmith
Info At college, I met a young folksinger named Phyllis Barbour. We knew each other for a year, dated for six months, and were married in the Ft. Sam Houston Chapel, in San Antonio, on March 16, 1963. This is a picture of Phyllis and me in the receiving line after our wedding.
  • Paul Barbour, Betty Barbour, Phyllis Barbour Nesmith, Mike Nesmith, Bette Nesmith Graham, Bob Graham
Info Here is our wedding portrait. Left to right are Mr. Paul Barbour and Mrs. Betty Barbour (Phyllis’ folks), Phyllis and me, Bette Graham (my mom) and Bob Graham (my stepfather).

Info And here is—you guessed it—our son, Christian DuVal. He was born on January 31, 1964, and was 18 months old when this picture was taken.
