You’re Telling Me

I want to assure each and every one of you who has ever written a letter to me, at 16 Magazine, that every single letter is read and that careful consideration is given to everything you write. I’m sure you understand that there isn’t enough space in my magazine for me to publish every letter and that there simply isn’t enough time for me to answer every letter personally. But please know that I’m deeply grateful to you for writing me and that I appreciate every suggestion and criticism you address to me. Write to me as follows: Miss Gloria Stavers, 16 Magazine, 745 Fifth Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10022.

Dear Miss Stavers,

I read in the January issue of 16 that DAVY JONES has a crush on BARBRA STREISAND. I know she is a Columbia recording artist, but would you run a picture of her?

Sally Witling
Dayton, Ohio

Dear Sally,

’Tis done, BARBRA also starred in Funny Girl and has done some outasite TV specs. Her address is 520 Fifth Avenue, New York City, and she would love to hear from you—all of you. Here she is with the one she has a crush on—her poodle “Sadie”.

Dear Miss Stavers,

Recently, you wrote instructions on how to get an English pen pal, but I lost them. Please print them again.

Rachel Fraga
Red Bluff, Calif.

Dear Rachel,

Here are the instructions, just as they came to me from England:

Dear Gloria,

I am swamped with English readers—boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 17—who are very anxious to get American pen friends, or pen pals as you call them. If you have any readers who would like an English pen pal, have them send a self-addressed envelope and an International Reply Coupon (not stamps, as your stamps are no good here) to the address below. International Reply Coupons can be obtained at any U.S. Post Office.

Dear Miss Stavers,

You’re joking, of course. I mean all that stuff about those dreary MONKEES! They’re really yecch! Especially, Davy. Hiss on the MONKEES! I say keep ’em out of 16.

Brenda Williams
New York City

Dear Brenda,

And I say you’d better buy a big cement block and lock yourself inside cos 30 million MONKEE-maniacs are mad at you!

Dear Miss Stavers,

16 is fab! I ordered those Super Giant Pin-Ups you sell and I am in flip city! The ones of MARK and DAVY are my faves. Thanks so much!

Tory Olson
Hutchinson, Kans.

Dear Tory,

We aim to please! Take note, all you other star-luvvers—and see Page 3!

Dear Miss Stavers,

Here are two poems we made up about my two favorite RAIDERS:

Bang!
It’s Fang!
He sang!
Bells rang!

Litty, itty, bitty Smitty
He’s so cute
And often witty!

Dear Miss Stavers,

I just had to write and tell you that all my good convictions regarding 16 were recently confirmed by HERMAN AND THE HERMITS. I met them in L.A., and when I asked them what magazine they liked best and considered most truthful—all five, with no hesitation, said, “16 Magazine!” I read a line in one of those square mags actually naming 16 and putting it down, but please don’t worry—we fans can’t be fooled by those cheap imitations!

Judy Sund
San Diego, Calif.

Dear Judy,

Thanks for loving us—I love you (all of you), too. I guess you know that by now. And that’s what really counts—not the put-downers and the drags.

Dear Miss Stavers,

Recently, I ordered my Monkees Giant Color Poster, and when it arrived it drove me right up the wall! I mean literally. I pinned it up and it was so smash I crawled right up the wall after it! Oo-lah and ta!

Betty Redding
Tallahassee, Fla.

Dear Betty,

Come down, come down—wherever you are! OR—if any of you other MONKEES-chasers wanta follow Betty’s example, see Page 11!

Dear Miss Stavers,

Where can I write to the ANIMALS and ERIC, now that they have broken up and ERIC is on his own?

Rudy Fretter
Dallas, Texas

Dear Rudy,

Write to the ANIMALS OFFICIAL FAN CLUB for full info on all the boys. Address is in care of Laurie Speed, 1890 Oakmont Dr., Glendale, Calif.

Dear Miss Stavers,

Please print my fan club for MARIANNE FAITHFULL. All interested in becoming members should write to me and enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Dear Miss Stavers,

Please print this photo I recently took of the ROBBS. I met them when they appeared with the RAIDERS in Chicago. They—and the RAIDERS—were wonderful people.

Dear Miss Stavers,

Please print a picture of that fab guy, ROY CASTLE, as he appeared in NBC-TV’s Through The Looking Glass.

How and where can I order a DC5 sweatshirt?

Carol Stuart

Dear Miss Stavers,

I ordered your 16’s Sweetheart Book and—ZAP! I’m hanging from Cloud 9! Every page is a thrill!

You’re a sweetheart, too, for saying such sweet things about it. Hey, out there! If you’d like to join Marcy in the clouds, turn to Page 47!
