On the Set with The Monkees

TIGER BEAT takes a trip back in time to 1966, when Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith first began bringing their wildly wacky show to the tube.

THE MAD HATTERS… The latest looks in headgear are modeled by Micky, Davy, and Peter.
  • Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork
COWBOYS AND INDIANS… Micky and Peter put on a Wild West show for fans. Note the flower painted on Peter’s cheek. In the Sixties, that would have been called groovy!
  • Peter Tork, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith, Micky Dolenz
HAREM SCAREM… Though they fought tooth and nail, the band was forced to shoot this scene with about half a dozen pretty young women. They hated every minute of it (just kidding).
  • Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith, Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz
SO SHEIK… The boys confer for a moment about whether or not they should be seen in public wearing towels on their heads.
  • Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Natasha Pavlova (Ondine Vaughn)
LET’S DANCE… Davy and Micky try to figure out why a girl in a red leotard and white tutu is standing in the middle of their living room.
  • Micky Dolenz, Mike Nesmith
SO VEDDY PROPER… Outlandish outfits are one of the hallmarks of Monkees humor.
  • Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith
THE LAND DOWN UNDER… The boys don their best bush hats for an outdoor location shoot.
  • Davy Jones
HOW NOW… Davy and his Indian pal make quite an interesting team, don’t you think?
  • Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith
MUSIC MEN… Taking a break from their regular instruments, Davy, Micky, Peter and Mike play a rousing version of “Vallerie” on the harp.
