Davy Talks About The Monkee Movie

Davy Jones
Info

I guess you’re as anxious as I am to know what our movie’s about. If I’m confusing you, it’s because the plot of the film is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. When I first read the script, I couldn’t quite believe what I was seeing. Even Micky was puzzled and he’s got the greatest imaginary mind you’ll ever come up against.

Wild things happen in the movie like us getting sucked up by a vacuum cleaner and meeting Arabs and Indians on the desert. We do western bits, teeny-bopper takeoffs, some groovy love scenes, and even some kind of dramatic scenes. Here, on these pages, are some shots that I thought were very interesting. It not only will give you an idea of the feel of the movie, but also show you what was happening behind the cameras. Hope you all have as much fun seeing the movie as we did making it.

  • Mike Nesmith, Bruce Paul Barbour
Info Lookalikes! Notice how much Mike and his brother-in-law Bruce Barbour look alike. Of course they’re both wearing the same outfit, but even if they weren’t, there still would be lots of similarities.
  • Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, Mike Nesmith
Info All together! Photographers tell us all the time that they never can get a good shot of us all together. Well, here’s one I think you’ll agree is fairly good. This was taken out in Palm Desert when we went on location. I really love it in Palm Springs and go down every weekend I can get away. I often think how much good the sun would do my father.
  • Lord High ’n Low (Timothy Carey)
Info Variety is what we’re aiming for in the film. Above, you see a wild stunt with a groovy car and a fake hanging. This was shot out at the Columbia ranch where we do our Western shows.
  • Micky Dolenz
Info [Above], you see Micky doing his scene with the Italian soldiers in the desert.
  • Ric Klein, David Pearl, Bruce Paul Barbour, David Price
Info The second team! This is what everyone calls our stand-ins. If you’re not familiar with them, here’s who they are left to right: Ric Klein, Micky’s stand-in; David Pearl, Peter’s stand-in; Bruce, Mike’s stand-in; and David Price, my stand-in. Not only are they stand-ins, but they’re also very close friends of ours and very talented people in their own right.
