Have YOU seen a Monkee lately? You don’t think so? You think you’d know a Monkee anyplace? Well, think again, because the amount of times fans see the Monkees is ridiculous!
In fact, the Monkees usually aren’t recognized, unless they’re in a place fans think they ought to be and they are acting like the four great guys you see on TV every week. But, if they’re in some town just for a little while and they’re acting just like normal people act when they’re in a strange town, nobody notices them. They can walk into a place where fans are looking at pictures of them in magazines and the fans will be saying things like, “Oh, I’d love to meet the Monkees!”, then a fan will look one of them straight in the eye and she won’t recognize him!
The funniest thing happened this summer on the spectacular summer tour. The Monkees all wanted to see Niagara Falls. They hired a car to take them there and somehow the deejays found out about it and told everyone listening to the radio that the Monkees were on their way to Niagara Falls. Well, as you can well imagine, soon all the roads leading to the Falls were clogged with Monkee fans. When the Monkees arrived they found that there were so many fans the police wouldn’t let them out of the car! This wasn’t too groovy because the Monkees really wanted to see the Falls so the mayor asked everyone to please be considerate and let the Monkees get out of the car and see what they’d come to see.

The fans moved back so the Monkees could get out of the car and while they were all getting out Micky took advantage of the situation and sneaked into the crowd. He began pushing his way through, taking pictures all the time, and nobody noticed that it was him! They were all so intent on seeing what they thought was the Monkees they didn’t notice Micky right there in the crowd with them.
Another time Peter was in New York and he was going up and down the streets and no one noticed him, either. He waved and said hello to everyone and they waved back, but it was like he was a complete stranger to them, not Peter the Monkee.
Even in Hollywood the Monkees don’t get recognized lots of times. They eat in a coffee shop right next to the recording studios and many times they see fans who’ve waited outside the studios, but inside the coffee shop the fans somehow just don’t notice that the Monkees are right there with them! They don’t expect to see the Monkees there so they don’t notice them.

Mike is looking for a weekend ranch in Colorado right now so he often goes there just for a day or two to look at the different ranches that are for sale. He’s in lots of small towns and fans don’t expect him to be in their town, so he can walk just about anywhere and no one recognizes him.
The Monkees often go to towns far away from Hollywood when they have a couple of days vacation from filming and recording. Because they go to so many different places, including many small towns, the chances are excellent that no matter where you live you might get to see a Monkee! Don’t think that your town is too small or too far away from the big cities for that’s the exact sort of place the Monkees like to go to. Keep looking, all the time, and you’ve got a very good chance of being one of the lucky fans who get to meet the Monkees!
