the Monkees special broadcast for NBC Television Monday, April 14. / The imagination runs riot. A winding staircase with wrought iron balustrades; a vintage pullman car; a giant, ten-foot-tall Kodiak bear; an American eagle screaming, with wings spread; an ancient taxi; the bridge of a World War II submarine; the cockpit of a flying fortress and a circa 1940 juke box, all familiar sights from vintage movies. These are a few of the props. / Add to this the Monkees, Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll and the Trinity, the Buddy Miles Express, the Moon Express, zitarist Maryvonne and her Indian musicians, the We Three Trio and the Jaime Rogers Dancers augmented by 120 bonafide hippies, imported from Sunset Boulevard for the occasion. / With all these people and props doing their things at once, you might expect complete bedlam and cacophony but, thanks
