“Papa Gene’s Blues” Lyrics

Mike: We’re gonna do a kind of acoustic set now. These are songs that we’ve had with us for a long time, and sort of hard to get ’em launched back in the day, but, but now, me and, uh, Mick just do ’em, huh huh huh. Nyah-nyah nyah-nyah. Ha ha ha haha. Now, I’ll tell ya, you know, don’t wanna embarass him, I’ve never enjoyed working with anyone as much as I do with Micky Dolenz.
Micky: Oh!
Mike: That’s true. You know that.
Micky: And you know my sentiments exactly. I’ve never enjoyed working with anybody but me as much as I have… ha ha ha. We used to sit around the campfire, we used to call it, in between shooting scenes in the show, and invariably, we would end up playing Nez tunes ’cause he was the only one writing any songs, and this is one of the very first ones that I remember learning and playing with, uh, good old Papa Nez, called “Papa Gene’s Blues”.

No heartaches felt, no longer lonely
Nights of waiting finally won me
Happiness that’s all rolled up in you
And now with you as inspiration
I look toward a destination
Sunny, bright that once before was blue

I have no more than I did before (Mike: If you know it, sing it!)
But now I’ve got all that I need (Mike: That was pretty)
For I love you, and I know you love me (Mike: Yeah!)

So take my hand, I’ll start my journey
Free from all the helpless worry
That besets a man when he’s alone
For strength is mine when we’re together
And with you, I know I’ll never
Have to pass the high road for the low

I have no more than I did before
But now I’ve got all that I need
For I love you, and I know you love me

Mike: Play, Magic Fingers!

[break]

I have no more than I did before
But now I’ve got all that I need
For I love you, and I know you love me
Yes, I love you, and I know you love me
