Monkees Break-Up: When, How, Why

You’ve read the rumors about Davy, Micky, Peter and Mike and the fate of their show! Now read the facts—and find out what YOU can do to help!

While the whole world waits breathlessly for NBC to make its decision, the future of four of the grooviest guys in the world hangs in the balance! These four guys are the Monkees—better known as Mike, Peter, Micky and Davy. Though their TV ratings vary from middle low to very high, it seems as if the “powers that be” still aren’t sure whether they want to keep The Monkees on TV for another season.

But don’t panic! First off, no matter what happens (short of disaster, of course), Davy, Mike, Peter and Micky will definitely be cavorting and grinning at you from your TV box through the middle of September, 1968. Perhaps, by the time you read this, NBC will have come to its sense and decided to keep the boys on for another season. Let’s hope so! But if for some reason they decide to withdraw the show, at least you will have the consolation of knowing for sure that you can groove with your beloved Monkees all spring, summer and into the fall!

Since all of you Monkee-luvvers all over the world are most anxious to save these four fine specimens from oblivion, you must unite and do the following: Start writing letters now to the Program Director, NBC-TV, Rockefeller Center, New York City. Write as many letters as you can and as often as possible. Just remember—it’s your letters which may help save The Monkees!

Peter, Mike, Micky and Davy have already formulated some of their plans and, no matter what happens, you are sure to see lots of Monkee madness—not only now but well into the future. The very first thing on the boys’ list is the movie they will make. It is scheduled to start shooting around the first of February, and the plot is being kept a deep dark secret—so you are in for a big surprise! The release date of the movie has not yet been set, but the guess is that it will be shown in August, or possibly at Christmastime 1968. It’s bound to be a winner!

If there’s time after the movie has been shot, the Monkees will pack up and head for the Far East. At present, they are scheduled to visit Australia and Japan, with stops along the way.

Although no plans have been formulated, it is very likely that the boys will do another concert tour of the U.S. this summer. The itinerary has not been set, so if you would like for the Monkees to come to your town, it will help if you send a note to Raybert Productions, 1334 North Beachwood, Hollywood, Calif., requesting that an arena in your hometown be selected as one of the spots where the boys will appear this summer.

Of course, Mike, Davy, Peter and Micky will continue to record Monkee singles and LP’s together. It is not out of the cards that they may do some individual records too. Whatever, the more the merrier!

Since each of the Monkees has a long-term contract with Raybert Productions-Screen Gems, you can bet your knickers that you will be seeing plenty of them on TV and in the movies in the months to come—and far into the future. What’s more their contracts are flexible, which means that they can do anything—and all of the boys definitely want to continue their careers as show business stars!
